On this occasion about 200 chess players gather in Havana, six in the elite group, 150 in the open and around 30 in the children's group until they are 15-16 years old.

The Capablanca International Tournament, dedicated to the only Cuban world champion among 1921 and 1927, and also considered one of the 4 best chess players of all time, this time with two Cubans in the main section, Lázaro Bruzón, 79th place of the world ranking and 2 664 points ELO, and Yusnel Bacallao that has an ELO of 2594.

The Elite group is made up of six chess players, four foreigners besides the two Cubans mentioned, they are the American Samuel Shankland of 2701, sub champion of 2017 and great favorite for this edition, the Russians Aleksey Dreev 2653 and Aleksandr Rakmanov 2 635, and the Spanish Davod Antón 2646.

So far Samuel Shankland marches first with the Russian Aleksey Dreev, while the Cubans have not fared very well, this section is played two rounds by the system of all against all.

Very well organized as always the Capablanca, and the world of chess, miss the highest figure of Cuba Lienier Dominguez, 4 times winner of these contests, which remains out of all official competition for more than a year for personal problems, situation that has not been resolved and by which the Cuban Chess Federation was pronounced a few days ago, confirming that it is not yet known when the Güines idol will return to the team and communicating that this will not be in the world Olympiad to be played next September in Batumi, Georgia.

This will be the main competition of Cuban chess this year and it is presumed by the results achieved that the four boards and the Cuban substitute are Lázaro Bruzon, Yusnel Bacallao, Yuri González, Yasser Quesada and Isán Ortiz. Although without Leinier the Cuban cast loses strength.

The Ukrainian Vaisly Ivanchuk is the highest winner of the Capablanca of Chess tournaments with six titles followed by Leinier Domínguez with four crowns; the 2017 edition was won by the Indian Krisnan Sasikiran.

For our team this is a blank tournament for the September Olympics in Georgia, for now we are still waiting for a Cuban to raise the Capablanca, something that has not happened since 2014, when Leinier Domínguez did it and 2018 will not be the year either, but I hope and I'm wrong.
