Throughout our history there are thousands of examples that demonstrate the determination of Cubans in their struggle for independence, one of them is undoubtedly the uprising of November 30, 1956, starring by the July 26 Movement in Santiago de Cuba under the orders of Frank País García.

The prevailing situation the people of Cuba lived at that time was absolute torture, in head the tyrant Fulgencio Batista, a man who had come to power after a vile coup in March 1952.

The attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Garrisons, and decision of the taking of the Civil Hospital Saturnino Lora, July 26, 1953, sparked the Cuban people and showed that the only path to freedom was armed struggle, but also aroused the tyrant has since intensified persecution, torture, killings and disappearances.

Fidel was in Mexico and dictatorship knew he had plans to secretly enter Cuba and begin an armed insurrection, but did not know when or where. Before the enemy surveillance came the expected message sent by Fidel to Arturo Duque de Estrada, "exhausted ordered work", was the November 27, 1956, three days after people from Santiago should take the city as long as possible.

The objectives of military action were to neutralize as much as possible to the lining of the Cuartel Moncada. It could be prevent the exit of the police in the city, the other objective was to collect as many weapons to carry the mountains, that is attack the headquarters of the Maritime and National Police and a hardware store in the Plaza Dolores in downtown selling arms and ammunition.

Those were hours of indescribable tension and much and much courage overwhelmed by the young revolutionaries, inexperienced in militant work, the streets of Santiago became controlled by men of Frank País, in this revolutionary action dressed for the first time olive green uniform that so many glories given to our people.

Tony Aloma, Pepito Tey and Otto Parellada, were among the fallen that day, but they and all others were willing to pay that high price because they knew for a revolutionary through and through death is no obstacle if no other form of struggle and a path for future fighters.

The main actions of November 30, 1956, was undoubtedly the demonstration that in Cuba was people decided to win their freedom to price was necessary, that historic day marked the beginning of the road to freedom, we achieved the January 1, 1959 for the first time in our history.

We can say today the uprising of November 30, 1956 in Santiago de Cuba and actions in other provinces were an encouragement to many young Cuban. Until then had not made any organizations of struggle, and also an event, that could not be concealed by tyranny, was known outside of Cuba, which allowed the world know that the Cubans did not want the bloody dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.

Today, 58 years after those events Cubans still will remain the same, except now, that determination of Frank País and his men have us preserve our achievements, our freedom and independence, and anyone trying snatch us will meet all the people willing to die first, that being put knees again.
