Educational institutions in Jaruco strengthening the prevention of ITS

Jaruco, Mayabeque. With the start of the new school year, the Health Education and Prevention Group together with the Department of Sexually Transmitted Infections (ITS) of Jaruco, reinforce the educational intervention with students of the upper and middle school.

Considering that they are students in full adolescence, the objective is to raise the perception of risk before a slight increase in STIs this year, in cases whose ages range between 16 and 30 years of age.

Ofelia Delgado Padrón, educator of the Health Education and Prevention Group at the Municipal Directorate of Public Health, said that the talks conceived deal with the most frequent infections detected, such as syphilis, blenorrhagia, condyloma and herpes simplex.
The meetings will also discuss the benefits of anonymous and confidential telephone counseling on STIs and HIV-AIDS, Help Line, and the pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) pill.

The specialists will emphasize that this new medicine applied in some municipalities of Cuba, is of daily use and reduces the possibility of contracting HIV to seronegative people vulnerable to this infection, but the key is to maintain responsible sexual relations.
