Maintains quality of services SUMA laboratory of Jaruco, despite the blockage

Jaruco, Mayabeque. After nine years of being created and despite the limitations imposed by the US blockade, the laboratory of the Ultramicroanalytical System (SUMA) of Jaruco, remains as a bulwark of Public Health in this municipality of Mayabeque.
Located in the Noelio Capote Integral Teaching Polyclinic in the main city, the laboratory guarantees, at no cost, the timely diagnosis of almost twenty diseases.

In the midst of not a few financial difficulties, the Ministry of Public Health maintains the supply of the necessary reagents so that tests related to the Maternal and Child Program (PAMI) can be carried out there.

Phenylketonuria (FCU) to the newborn to detect six diseases, including cystic fibrosis, and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in maternal serum that seeks to diagnose neural tube defects and other failures, are some of the prioritized studies.

In the work of the technicians and specialists of the SUMA laboratory in Jaruco, the research of chronic no communicable diseases, such as cancer and kidney failure, is also supported.

Griselda Bordón López, analyst specialist of this SUMA laboratory, said that they also determine HIV, hepatitis B and C, as well as the Dengue virus.

“Nor has the quarterly maintenance provided by the Immunoassay Center (CIE) to the equipment that allows us to interpret the samples,” she said.

To illustrate the above with figures, she mentioned that in October alone they made 710 Dengue mono serums, fecal occult blood, 70 and tests to detect cystic fibrosis in the newborn known by its acronym TIR, 21.
