Remember Primary Care Program created by the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro

The Cuban family medicine model that is developed more than three decades ago in Cuba constitutes the third model of health care since the revolutionary period began on the island.

This fourth of January, at its 35th anniversary of creation by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro the Nurse and the Family Doctor Offices as health institutions raise the health indicators that are currently exhibited in Cuba comparable to those of developed nations.

Among the functions that stand out in the Nurse and Family Offices are the decrease in infant mortality, which at the end of 2018 and for the second consecutive year was 4 per thousand live births, the lowest of History, and for 11 years remains below five, according to Dr. Roberto Álvarez Fumero, head of the Maternal and Child Department of the Ministry of Public Health.

Currently, this model of primary health care in Jaruco has a clinical, epidemiological and social focus, attention of the individual, family, community and the environment, highlighting community and inter sectoral participation, in order to improve health status of the inhabitants to whom medical care is provided with quality and efficiency supported by a trained medical staff.

It is important to always remember that the primary health system must carry the greatest weight in solving the medical problems in the country in accordance with the conceptions of the Cuban Public Health that gives priority to preventive medicine and manages to enhance anywhere in the world quality medical services of which Cuba has extended to other nations of the world, which do not have effective primary care.
